'Posties' join landlords in fight against cannabis farms

Landlords can be re-assured by the news that the fight against drug factories in residential rental properties has been taken up by the 'neighbourhood postie'.

Police in Scotland have started to enlist postmen and women, and many are currently training in 'surveillance techniques' on how to spot properties that are being used as cannabis farms.

The initiative from Lothian & Borders Police, follows the discovery of over 100 cannabis farms across the country in the last 12 months.

Inspector Derek Fairley, who is in charge of the initiative, said: "Cannabis cultivations are a serious risk not only to the property they are sited within but to surrounding properties as well.

"It is vitally important that all members of our community are aware of the signs of a cannabis cultivation and work with us to create a safer environment."
