Landlord Made to Pay £62,000

A Nottingham landlord,Anthony Carroll, has been charged £62,200 in financial penalties.

The penalties were placed on two student rental properties the landlord owns and had failed to properly manage and licence. The properties were described as being covered in black mould and was not property maintained or licenced.

There were holes in floorboards and the rental properties were infested with mice

The landlord pleaded guilty to 17 charges of non compliance of regulations and renting out properties without required licences.

The landlord was made to pay a total of £62,200, of which £14,700 was charged as a fine, £37,500 confiscated in rent during the time the two properties were not licensed and £10,000 towards court costs.

The landlord was given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for one year.
