Another Landlord Licence Scheme - Chocolate toothbrush?

A new 'landlord licence' scheme has been started up in the East Midlands.

The East Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme.

The scheme is open to pretty much any landlord who fulfills the following -

"A landlord who wishes to become accredited must offer at least one residential property for rental in the East Midlands. The landlord does not have to be based in the East Midlands region."

and who will abide by the Code of Management.

This might appeal to some landlords, but as readers of this blog will already know, we have very little enthusiasm for these attempts at landlord licence schemes.

Apparently if you break every rule in their book "EMLAS may remove the landlord from the scheme and exclude them for a limited period of time or indefinitely."

Another costly exercise in attempting to push up standards in property letting - chocolate toothbrush anyone?

But don't let us put you off, you could get 20% off a mould treatment - Visit the schemes site

Alternatively you could just phone up the mould company and haggle them down. "But no sir, we can only give that discounted price to EMLAS members."

Please let us know if you think the EMLAS scheme is worthwhile.
