TOTAL LANDLORD INSURANCE SPONSORS PRESTIGIOUS UK LANDLORD ACCREDITATION PARTNERSHIP AWARDS
Specialist provider of Buy-to-Let cover, Total Landlord Insurance , is pleased to announce that they will be sponsoring the inaugural UK Landlord Accreditation Partnership (UK LAP) awards.
The event which takes place on Thursday March 1st 2012, will celebrate the professionalism of London’s landlords and agents. Eleven awards will be given to those landlords, agents and partners who have excelled in their service to the private rented sector.
Steve Barnes, Broking Manager, for Total Landlord Insurance, said:
“We fully support initiatives that improve standards in the private rented sector, and as such wholeheartedly endorse everything that the UK Landlord Accreditation Partnership stands for.
“The UK LAP is not only there to recognise good landlords but also offers support and training to new landlords to ensure that they can build a successful and well run business, and give all of its members access to the latest legislation.
“We are delighted to be a sponsor of such a prestigious event and wish all the nominees the best of luck on the night.”
Two new accreditation programmes will also be launched at the event.
The Green Landlords’ Accreditation Scheme which will train landlords to be more energy and water usage conscious for the sustainability of their businesses, and to the benefit of their tenants and the environment.
The Tenant Accreditation Scheme will also be launched which will advise tenants on how to be responsible residents. The benefits of gaining accreditation will make tenants more knowledgeable as to their rights and responsibilities, and, they will be more desirable to landlords as they will have shown their commitment to being ideal tenants.
The Future of Housing in the Private Rented Sector will be hosted at
The Thistle Hotel, Edinburgh Suite, Bryanston Street, London W1H 7EH.

Landlord with a foot fetish
A London landlord, Florin Vlasceanu, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison following a series of disturbing sexual assaults on his tenants.
The landlord who seemingly has a strange fetish for sucking and caressing feet has also been placed on the sex offenders register for ten years following a series of indecent acts against 4 different tenants.

NLA award validity
A follow up on our questioning of the validity of the NLA women in property awards, that any regular PH readers would know we haven't got a great deal of time for. (but that might say more about us)(... maybe we're just too metropolitan man for our own good and should take a chill pill and fire up the quattro back to 1980s attitudinal).
Anyway following on from a comment placed on the post a Moregeous has posted questioning the validity of the whole judging criteria.
She questions -
"How can the judges decide on the regional winners, based on the competition’s stated criteria, when:
No verification checks have been done about the claims made by the entrants on their own entry forms
No evidence has been provided as to how they run their businesses, in the form of an interview, or references provided by, for example, a bank or trade contacts
No examination has been made of the condition of the entrants’ properties, even in the form of photographs, which every landlord has for marketing purposes."
Morgeous continues to inform us that "The organisers then admitted that “overcoming personal obstacles” was one of the criteria given to the judges, even though it hadn’t been advertised, so those entrants who’d also included a great sob story were at an advantage."
Cue the music and tears and where's Cilla Black when you need her.
Not a patronising, opportunistic PR opportunity then?
Read Moregeous very enlightening post here
PS Before we annoy the NLA any further - we do think they are the best of all the landlord associations.

Lady landlords equality?
Firstly, I want to congratulate Juliet Ashton-Taylor who was crowned queen of the female landlords at the latest Women in Property Awards. However, whilst not wanting to trivialise her personal achievements; I wonder whether the very nature of this type of award is not patronising to women. Does it say as much about the perception of the male middle aged leaders of the traditional landlord organisations that promote them.
"Oh well done dear. Haven't you done well & you did it all yourself?"
Surely if you are going to have a landlord award then it should be open to all.
My perception is that female landlords have long ago left behind many of their male competitors having a natural aptitude for detail. Personally, I see female landlords as my competitors & not a group to be patronised.
Sorry girls - I'm all about running a modern rental business and that means war!

Award for silliest award Award
It appears that we have entered the landlord award season again. This is where spurious awards are lorded on individuals after being judged in dubious ways by organisations that may be a tad more interested in their own self publicity rather than any Olympic dream.
The National Landlords Association - the self proclaimed 'big beast' of landlord associations is promoting a set of awards for Lady Landlords. In the interest of political correctness they are not called Landladies but are women in property. There are even categories for green women under thirty or something like that.
I'm not sure I'd be too happy to receive the award for the 2010 Green Women in Property Under 30 category and I'm not sure how many entrants there would be but there you go.
If you are interested in the nominees you can have a look here.
If you do come across any more competitions for landlords to enter please let us know.
I'm great in the sack and have my egg and spoon polished and ready to go!

Former nurse scoops landlord award
A former nurse from Blackpool has scooped a national award for landlord of the year.
Nicola Milner, director of the Blackpool Company C and L Property Ltd, which rents out 45 properties in the resort, received two commendations for achievement and customer service at the national Landlord and Buy-to-Let awards.
Nicola only started building her portfolio 10 years ago when she spotted her gap in the market renting out property to medical staff at the nearby Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
Her technique is to buy run down property and then spend about £20,000 refurbishing them.
She has been particularly keen to work with tenants to work through any difficulties in paying rent.
"I've never had to evict anyone because I arrange payment plans with tenants. It took one girl two years to get back on track but she's done it."

Landlord cruise in the Caribbean - that's what we call a landlord conference
Grab your margherita, it's time for landlords to let loose for a week.Imagine spending a week at a landlord conference, no not a week at the NEC, but on a cruise boat, cruising the Caribbean.
At least someone will understand the pressures you're under, even though they will be talking with an America accent.
If you fancy it it's $1099.
Book your trip of a life time here.
PropertyHawk are considering sponsoring a landlord conference on the National Express from London to Newcastle, soft drinks included, but we cannot guarantee you will be sat next to anyone interesting.

Landlord awards awards & quangos.....
Any landlord who has a few hours to waste filling out yet another form may be interested in yet another award a landlord can potentially win.
Wait for it - its the...
NHIC awards.
By all accounts the National Housing & Improvement Council have been running this little baby for 33 years and it just gets 'bigger and bigger' every year.
Landlord insurance - expert advice - supermarket prices
If a landlord is very lucky the NHIC may also present the coveted George Plucknett Award if, in the judges’ opinion there is any one submission that stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Having looked at the previous winners, it's still no clearer who won and what for.
The winner will get to meet a Minister. I'd love to go just to explain what I feel about the whole charade.
I suspect that only public sector gimps and bureaucrats will have the time to waste filling out the forms and having the time to go on such a freebee. On accepting their award at the public expense no doubt they will only be too pleased to thank the Minister for a very entertaining evening.
Public sector incest and pointlessness at it's worst!
