New Rental Arrears Recovery Laws

The Government is to introduce a new rental recovery system under changes to the rules governing how bailiffs enforce against debtors.
Regulations will be prepared by the Summer 2013.  The changes will tighten up how bailiffs can act including requiring them to undergo mandatory training and certification.

Many landlords would disagree that the laws on debt collection need tightening arguing that tracing and then collecting unpaid rent is hard enough as it is without curtailing the powers of bailiffs in any way.

As always the solution to these problems is the same. Charge more rent.

Those who make the rules have to realise that the more they allow a set of rules to be entrenched that allow a few rogues to effectively steal with impunity, the more the many good folk seeking mobility and a good place to stay will suffer. The money for these losses has to come from somewhere, and at the end of the day it comes from people who need to rent and who need to remain mobile but are not prepared to steal to get that.
