Landlords are looking to be the billion pound baby in 2015 according to figures released by the Council of Mortgage (CML).
Data released by the Council found that the wealth controlled by landlords reached £990 billion in 2014 and has risen 70% since the financial crisis in 2007.
Landlord loans continue to be the fasted growing area of the market as more landlords look to expand their portfolios and newbie landlords enter the lettings market.
Many longstanding landlords have paid off their mortgages resulting in the overall indebtedness of the buy-to-let sector being low at 19% of the value of the rented property meaning that £643 billion of the £990 billion is debt free giving many landlords the opportunity to lever in additional funds to expand their buy-to-let portfolio.
