Private landlords with properties in the city's wards of Central, North, East, Park, Fletton and Woodston, Bretton North, Stanground Central, Walton and Orton Longueville need to check the council's map that identifies the streets and house numbers designated to come under Peterborough's landlord licensing scheme.
A licence is required for each rental property that comes under the scheme and failure to comply could lead to an unlimited fine.
Conditions for each licence include proof of up to date gas safety certificates, tested smoke alarms, safe electrical installation, electrical appliances and furniture, tenancy agreements and tenant references. As well as meeting these safety standards landlords will be expected to monitor each tenancy, making checks the property is not sub-let or suffer over-crowding and to sort out any reports of anti-social behaviour by tenants.
What a load of rubbish! Councils need to buy their OWN houses and not get involved in the PRS. We are landlords not policemen!
