Letting agent conspiracy theory

We all love a good conspiracy theory.

Property Hawk was recently contacted by a blogger mascerading as Anja Liszt.  This blogger has a serious point.  Her view (wrongly or rightly) I suspect the former rather than the latter is that the likes of Foxtons and Countrywide letting agents are on the cusp of being forced out of business because of their non compliance of consumer protection regulation.

An incredibly well researched piece which I suspect ignores the fact that government are incredibly adept at moving the goal posts if they think they have over done the constraints on capital and the capitalistic process (a conspiracy theory in itself).

What we would love to know is the real identify of Anja Liszt and her/his motivation.  They clearly have quite a lot of time and brain power to devote to their own conspiracy theories.

  1. Partly, I am hoping to embarrass regulators into acting, partly to provoke victims to stand up for themselves in large enough numbers to make a difference. Too many consumers just roll over.

  2. It is very misleading and somewhat dismissive to describe this excellent piece of journalism as a "conspiracy theory".

The author is not alleging any conspiracy, but widespread malpractice, for which she provides ample supporting evidence.

There is no bias or speculation in this article, and the conclusions follow logically from the facts.

As you point out, this piece is "incredibly well researched." So why refer to it as a "conspiracy theory" as if it was some sort of deranged ravings?

Please give the author more credit for the work and effort that has gone into this analysis.

  3. Thanks for your comments which were very fair. But ask yourself the question if I had entitled this blog post "Well researched extensive piece about the lettings industry" how many people including yourself would have read it?
