The landlord Wayne Anthony Larson was jailed for two and a half years after pleading guilty of manslaughter.
The tenants boyfriend, James Way had flooded the basement of the Cardiff rental property after sawing through a water pipe after a row with his girlfriend.
When the landlord was called he jumped on the boyfriend to restrain him causing serious abdominal injuries that later killed James Way.
