HMO landlord fined

A welsh landlord has been fined more than £10,000 for failing to maintain their HMO buy-to-let property properly.

Peter Teifion Jones, of Newton Road, Mumbles, pleaded guilty to a string of offences relating to poor management of an eight- bedroom property at 34 Bryn Road, Brynmill.

In total, Jones pleaded guilty to 12 charges brought by Swansea Council's environment health dept including:

Failure to maintain fire fighting equipment in good working order, maintain the internal structure of the living accommodation & to maintain a means of fire escape in good order and repair.

Property Hawk frequently rails against unecessary burearcracy and poorly thought out regulations that are more about politicians appearing to do something than bringing about improvements in the quality of rental property.

However, there is no excuse for landlords renting out rubbish property and potentially putting their tenants at risk. It's what gives us a bad name and gives the idiot politicians an excuse to beat us with a big stick!
