MP seeks greater protection for tenants

A Labour MP Brian Iddon has been successful in his attempt to bring in a private members bill to protect tenants where their landlord is repossessed.

He is seeking an amendment to the law giving tenants a minimum of 2 month notice before the property is repossessed by a landlord's mortgage company.

Government figures suggest that this problem could affect 3,000 tenants this year although the figure could be higher.

The announcement was welcomed by Crisis, Citizens Advice, Shelter and the Chartered Institute of Housing.
