Landlords cooker elements - what bl....dy number!!
Landlords - its been a while. Don't say you've missed me!
My latest rant is all about elements in ovens.
Any landlord who has an electric oven or grill will before long be faced with the prospect that the oven or grill suddenly stops working.
Landlord insurance - discounted professional rates - direct
The chances are. Its the element. Especially if like me you have purchased job lots of very cheap ovens from Ikea under the name of Ignis manufactured by Whirlpool.
Now simple job one would think - get Jo Mic or Bob to replace the element job done. Correct. However, what landlords need to be able to do is correctly identify which element. This is where the fun and games start!
Identifying the element
Having eventually enticed cajoled and berated Mick into going to the tenanted house. He phoned "got a piece of paper" off course as usual i hadn't. "come on, take down this numbers.....what are you messing about at" I then took down a whole raft of cooker element code - zeros squiggles 9 5s you name it. "Cheers Mick"
Then back to computer. I put them in Google to get the magic answer. Not a bl...dy dicky bird. So I phoned up the elementman.....not his name you understand a website stupid! In his Birmingham drawl he advised with a slightly condescending tone that I needed the oven model number. This could be found on a sticker on the inside of the oven. Right back to the drawing board. Phones tenant. Asks him to read number. He goes off and bakes a cake I think in the time he takes to get back to the phone. Apparently he didn't have his contacts in! So armed with a model number back to Google. This time something. Promising but not conclusive. A model number illicits a part number. Why wasn't this on the element I thinks!! Anyway, Finally through the part number, knowing the spec and type of the oven I feel confident enough to place an order. Having used the Elementman before I forgive him for his slightly off hand manner and whack in my details for an order.
What fun a landlord can have in an afternoon with a phone, short sighted tenant, computer and a malfunctioning oven!
Anyway must go - Miss Jones has called me apparently she's a bun in the oven....
