Landlords ignorant of immigration checks

80% of private landlords are ignorant of the new legislation requiring landlords to check the immigration status of their tenants according to research done by Easyroommate.co.uk.

From the 1st December landlords will be required to make checks on all adults aged 18 or over.

Landlords that fail to make the correct checks will be liable to civil penalty scheme.

The link to immigration checks required by landlords leads to a vague undated article without specifics - so it is not actually helpful and simply serves to paint a worried, confused picture.

You claim these checks kick-in on 1st December - a little over one week from now: but can anybody spell out the actual checks required?
