Scarborough HMO fine of £24k

A HMO landlord has been found guilty of 18 offences relating to a Scarborough rental flat.
Scarborough Magistrates' Court heard how Gary Fixter, from Chester, failed to maintain the HMO to a safe standard, citing:
  • Dangerous electrics, with exposed wires in common areas
  • Poorly maintained fire doors
  • Unsuitable fire detection and irregular alarm testing
  • Untreated damp
  • Disrepair of windows
  • Poor decorative state

Mr Fixter now has 28 days to pay a fine of a £24,000 alongside costs to the council of £18,000
