Landlords need to advertise correctly

It's been a matter of great contention for a long time.  Letting agents who aren't up front with all their fees.  Well, since the 1 November last year the Advertising Standard Authority has clamped down on errant advertising following action taken against letting agent Your Move.

The ASA now require all letting agents to display non-optional fees prominently in their rental ads.  These fees include:
  • Administration fees
  • Charges for inventories
  • Reference checks
Importantly, these same standard also apply to landlords advertising their properties to let.  The objective of the new standards are that Tenants are not misled.  Sounds reasonable.  Landlords should be aware of these guidelines when writing their own rental adverts because it applies to us too.

In addition to the non optional fees variable or optional fee information must also be available in the advert.  Life just got a little bit more complicated ...again!
