My tenants got slugs!

I've just had one of those emails from my tenants.  A like to refer to it as a shopping list:  The handle has fallen of the fridge, the washing machine no longer produces freshly laundered boxers and to cap it all my tenants has got slugs.  Apparently,  the little critters come in at night.  I don't know whether they then leave in the morning.

His question is what to do?  My immediate thoughts were, couldn't he just have a quiet word with them.  I don't know that much about the psychology of slugs but I'm sure that they are reasonable critters and would respond positively to a little bit of gentle persuassion.  Failing that there is always salt.

Any ideas?  Who says that the life of a landlord is not glamorous!

Put copper tape across entrances where the slugs come in. It costs about £5 a roll from most garden centres and large DIY stores.

I find your tongue-in-cheek post about your 'annoying' tenants having slugs a bit strange...

As a multi-property landlord in Scotland AND a tenant myself in England, I tend to find that a tenant that cares to report the small things are the type of tenant who care about value-for-money, but that also really look after the place. I find it hard to understand why you mock them?

... or perhaps this is because the place I have just move to also has slugs? They too are of the nocturnal persuasion, and I've been wondering over the last few days whether I should inform the landlord or not.

I think your post has made me think I shouldn't bother?

Hi Mark, I agree that a tenant that notices and is bothered to report the small things is in my experience a good thing. The tenant I refer to has been with me for 9 years and I respect this. However, the life of a landlord & property manager throws up some 'interesting' questions, problems and frustrations. I'm guessing this is what we seek to mock, not the real problems faced by our tenants.
