Calls for more houses

The organisation that represents housebuilders in the UK the House Builders Federation (HBF) has called for more new houses to be built in order to avoid a crisis of under provision of housing.

The HBF estimates that the shortfall of homes in the UK is approaching a million; yet despite this there are fewer new homes been built in the UK than since the 1920s.

The housing crisis has resulted in;

· Nearly a third of men and a fifth of women aged 20-34 living with their parents

· The average age of an unassisted first time buyer reaching 37

· Nearly 5 million people on local authority waiting lists

This month is New Homes month & the lack of supply of new housing in the UK market is one of the reason that many landlords despite recent weakness in the housing market can be assured that they are sat on a valuable long term asset.
