Tenants get greater protection from forced evictions caused by landlords property repossessions

Tenants who risk losing their home because of their insolvent landlords are to be provided with greater protection.

New proposals will give greater protection to those tenants under the threat of eviction after their landlord loses a property through repossession from a bank or building society, if the landlord is found to have failed to inform the bank that they were letting out their property.

Tenants will be allowed to stay in the home for a further two months after the actual repossession.

The current situation means that tenants face immediate eviction if the bank takes ownership of the property.
