Landlord Possession Actions

During the fourth quarter of 2008:
* 36,118 landlord possession claims were issued using the standard and accelerated possession procedures on a seasonally adjusted basis, 3% lower than in the fourth quarter of 2007 and 2% lower than in the third quarter of 2008.
* 27,715 landlord possession orders were made through the standard and accelerated possession procedures on a seasonally adjusted basis, 2% lower than in the fourth quarter of 2007 and 1% lower than in the third quarter of 2008.
* 41% of landlord possession orders made through the standard and accelerated possession procedures were suspended compared to 41% in the fourth quarter of 2007 and 40% in the third quarter of 2008.

The tables below can be found on the MoJ website

What the figures do illustrate very vividly is the high percentage of possession orders some 40% that were suspended possession orders which means that a tenant is allowed to remain in the landlords property as long as they comply with the possession order.
